MEC HISTORY
WHEN BILL LASSEN STEPPED OFF THE PLANE IN
HIS NEW HOME OF ADELAIDE MORE THAN 30 YEARS AGO, HE HAD NO IDEA
THE VENTURE HE WAS ABOUT TO EMBARK ON WOULD BECOME ONE OF SOUTH
AUSTRALIA'S PREMIER COLLISION REPAIR BUSINESSES.
Arriving from Sweden with his wife and three daughters, all ready
and eager to begin a new life in their adopted country, Bill found
work as a panel beater and it was there he met future business partner
Gordon Clarke.
Gordon, not long off the plane from London, immediately struck
up a friendship with Bill and not being content with what they were
doing at the time, they used their many hours of collision repair
experience to join forces and establish MEC Crash Repairs. The name
of the company derives from Bill's wife Maggie and their three daughters
Eva, Christina and Catherine - hence "MEC".
Thirty years later MEC is a booming business with two location
in Adelaide - one at Lonsdale, headed by Gordon and the other at
Forestville, managed by Bill. Both Bill and Gordon have been central
to the business' growth and success, constantly striving to exceed
the expectations of their customers and employing new technologies
to help assist and streamline the repair process.
